Baby it’s a golden summer
loving being stuck to you
I felt paper thin
I know that I knew
A big fat crush knowing that I’m
stuck here with you
Sipping a soda pop
Holding hands on the rooftop
You said let’s go then
took off into the air
I’m up, it’s late and you’re fast asleep
Clueless that we can’t keep
Holographic wing
Iridescent spring
Look into my eyes and scream
I want to feel everything
Holographic wing
Iridescent spring
Look into my eyes and scream
I want to feel everything
Baby it’s a golden summer
loving being stuck to you
Delicate and swift I flutter
soaring in metallic blue
Hover over sun-soaked water
multiplying in your eyes
Gliding through the wind I felt that
we were dragonflies
I want to feel everything
I can’t deny that we
having a vanity
but
I think I should keep my distance
don’t want to watch you fly away
I want to love you every season
seeing through this summer haze
Holographic wing
Iridescent spring
Look into my eyes and scream
I want to feel everything
Holographic wing
Iridescent spring
Look into my eyes and scream
I want to feel everything
Baby it’s a golden summer
loving being stuck to you
Delicate and swift I flutter
soaring in metallic blue
Hover over sun-soaked water
multiplying in your eyes
Gliding through the wind I felt that
we were dragonflies
I want to feel everything
I want to feel everything
I want to feel everything
Breathing in the humidity
Chasing you while you’re chasing me
I want to feel everything
And they say dragonflies don’t sting
Delicate and swift I flutter
soaring in metallic blue
Hover over sun-soaked water
multiplying in your eyes
Gliding through the wind I felt that
we were dragonflies
Dragonflies marks a continuing collaboration between Broken Spear and Sluurpee, two pop musicians who met as classmates in New York. The track fuses resonant shoegaze guitars and twinkly synth plucks as the backdrop for punchy drums, slowing down hyperpop conventions to slam home emo-earnest vocal hooks. The lyrics alternate between wistful and urgent, filtering a story of summer romance through a story of two dragonflies. Having previously worked together on Broken Spear’s album “Truth Pieces” (Business Casual, 2019), Dragonflies marks the two musicians’ first remote collaboration, with audio stems traded over a year while Broken Spear was living in Kona, Hawaii. To build the visual universe of the song, the two tapped the render-magic of Galen Tipton for the artwork, and then met in in upstate New York to shoot a music video, where they were greeted by waterfall vapor, mirrors, and crystalline forest moss captured in 4K and MiniDV.
