This song was discovered on an old record of instructional children's songs. The record was part of a whole series of music education records that Jimmy gave to me that Renaissance Records was getting rid of. I was collecting old record jackets to use for printing the first Silica Gel album cover onto. I didn't listen to the records until much later, after all the record jackets had been turned inside out and screen-printed with the May Day cover. So Fog turned out to be a very serendipitous song discovery and interesting material link between this album and our first one. This song really stuck out to me as a strange one for children to sing. It's adapted from a Carl Sandburg poem from 1917 that Roy Harris later set to music in the 50s. The spaciousness is so well suited for us to focus on voices, flutes and electronic textures.
