This started as an improv for the Maker Music Festival in Sebastopol, California, where we were only using instruments we had made, including the pyraharp, Joel's glass exciter setup and woodblocks made from bedposts. You can hear the glass rattling and buzzing at times throughout the song. Includes our own jingle at the beginning! The beat is from the drum machine in an old wurlitzer organ we had just found and hauled all the way across town to the Sweet Wreath studio. The concept is about crying as a form of understanding. Almost like a crystal ball that you look through. Tears as a kind of substance that conveys grief...that perhaps materially constitutes a form of wisdom that our brains can't hold.
lyrics
The mages of the moon
in bloom
send electricity
but you'll never leave
my haunted heart
tears are prisms
prisms of knowing
The blood flow to my brain
lemonade
equations of love
that you'll never solve
when darkness falls
What i meant to say
What i meant to say
Can you read my thoughts?
My beautiful friend
by God, let this never be
that out of jealousy
we cling to harm
Tears are prisms
prisms of knowing
Prisms are tears
tears are growing

they picked the cotton that saved the world. that picked cotton propelled u.s. economy; a unique capitalist setup. (though anglo saxon colonizers are not unique.) so many pop stars and hip hop billboard mainstays trumpet u.s. capitalism ad nauseam; or escapism & distraction.
"Don't Die," also powerful.
"i don't believe they lies. don't believe their truth, need they heads for proof" -- that's direct and powerful.
the violinist Saydah Ruz stands out here, i think. Jeremy Leaming
